Power Management refers to Plugchoice's system for:
Power Management modes
Load Balancing / Power Sharing / Fast mode
Solar Balancing
Solar Only
Smart Solar
Power Management settings
Peak Shaving
Advanced Solar Settings
Minimum charge threshold (Smart Solar)
Solar backup usage (Solar Only)
This is a cloud-based solution that allocates power to chargers based on power available from the grid and from generators such as solar panels. It's part of our Smart Charging technology.
How Power Management works
When a charger is added to the Power Management of a location, it will automatically be limited to the group's maximum current. This is called Load Balancing.
When more chargers (or connectors) are added, the available current will be shared between them. This is called Power Sharing.
If you want to account for other power consumers in the group, such as a heat pump or oven, you can add a meter to the group. The available current to the chargers will then be further limited based on the real-time power consumption of other devices in the group. This is called Dynamic Load Balancing.
Peak Shaving is a setting that further limits the group's maximum current. This can be used to avoid peak consumption tariffs in countries such as Belgium.
With a meter added, it's now possible to detect how much excess solar power is flowing back to the grid. You can choose to only charge on this excess solar power. This is called Solar Balancing.
How to set up Power Management
For simple installations with only one charger and one group (main fuse), we recommend adding a meter with the app. For more complex scenarios, this is how you set up Power Management via the Web Portal:
Go to Locations > View > Power Management. Press Get Started.
Add a meter or continue without one.
Select your grid connection type.
Select the building's main fuse.
The building's main fuse will now appear as a group.
Start by adding chargers directly under the main group, or press Add Group to create a sub-group below the main fuse. You can create as many groups below or in parallel as you want.
To add a meter to the group, just press on the group and press Add Meter.
Configuring chargers from Power Management
It's possible to change the configuration of chargers directly from the Power Management screen in Web Portal. Just press on a connector to change its phase rotation and maximum current.
