Plug & Charge

Understanding the "Plug & Charge" setting for Chargers, how it works and how to set it up.

Updated over a month ago

What is Plug & Charge?

The term "Plug & Charge" refers to starting a charging session without swiping your card and without activating the transaction in the app.

This is a Chargers setting and it can be found in the app as well as the web portal.

How does Plug & Charge work?

  • Plugging in your car will start the charging session immediately

  • You do not need to swipe your card

  • A card number is still sent by the charger to the backoffice(s)

When the setting is turned ON in the charger, the charger will accept every car and you do not need to swipe a card.

Why we still need a card number

On the background, however, we do send a charging card number (UID) along, even though you don't have to swipe your card. This is done so that if you are using Automatic Reimbursement, the correct card number can still be matched with the transaction so your energy can be reimbursed by your employer.

If you don't make use of energy reimbursement, you still need to choose a card number to charge with, but it doesn't do anything.
