Commissioning chargers with the app

In this guide, you will learn how to configure chargers and locations with the Plugchoice app as an installer.

Updated today

You're an installer and you have to commission a charger with the Plugchoice app (download here).

In this guide, you will learn:

  • Creating a location

  • Adding a meter for Power Management

  • Adding a charger

  • Adding cards

  • Inviting the owner

  • Recommissioning existing chargers

Commissioning new chargers

1. Before you start

  • Ask the end-user to install the Plugchoice app.

  • Ask the end-user to install the meter app (e.g. Chargee).

  • Make sure the charger is powered on.

2. Select or create a location

  • Go to Overview and press the location switcher in the top left.

  • Select the desired location or press Create a new location.

Add a meter

When creating a new location, you can add a meter. This is used for Power Management (Dynamic Load Balancing, Solar Balancing and Peak Shaving).

If you're adding a Sparky or Flint meter, the end-user must seperately connect this meter to the internet using the Chargee app.

For existing locations, go to Overview > Main Fuse to add a meter.

3. Add a charger

Navigate to the Chargers tab and click the + icon. Enter the serial number & PIN found on the sticker delivered with the charger and configure it.

Wifi

For Volt Time chargers, we support wifi setup with the app. You can choose to do this when adding the charger.

Configuration

We will ask you a few questions about the charger. The configuration will then be applied, this can take a while.

4. Add cards

Go to Overview > Account > Cards and press Add Card. Name the card and scan it with the card reader of the charger. This will add the card to the whole location, so it can be used for all chargers in the location.

5. Connect an operator (backoffice)

If the end-user wants to work with a billing operator or energy management system, go to Chargers > Settings > Operators and press Connect Operator.

If the operator is responsible for energy reimbursement, you must select Billing as the connection role. If your operator isn't listed, tap Other and enter the operator's websocket URL.

6. Invite the owner

Go to Profile > Members > Invite Member and enter the customer's e-mail address. Give them full access and make them owner of the location.

The end-user can scan the QR code or check their e-mail to accept the invite. You will lose most access to the location after 14 days, unless the end-user accepts to give you extended access.

Re-configuring existing chargers

To change the configuration of a charger, for instance to put it on Wi-Fi, tap the location switcher and find the location of the charger. Go to Chargers > Settings and press Reconfigure.

Adding new chargers to an existing location

Tap the location switcher and find the location of the charger. Then go to Chargers and tap the + icon to add a new charger.

How to gain access to a location

Ask the end-user to navigate to Profile > Members > Invite Members. They must:

  • Give you access to sensitive data

  • Keep themselves as owner

You can then scan the QR code to get access to the location and its chargers.
